Our white wines are fine examples of the perfect terroir and location of our vineyards: near enough to the Alps and the sea for a cool climate effect, and with just about perfect soils. Another strength of our white wines, (as it is with our red wines-see below), is the large amount of varietals available in our region. At the end of the 19th century the region's vineyards were mostly planted to local varietals such as Raboso, Marzemino, Bianchetta, Verdiso and Prosecco.
However, due to the European-wide problem of phylloxera and war, it became necessary to introduce vine species from other parts of Italy and Europe. These varieties included Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling, Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. Fortunately these new varietals adapted excellently to their new terroir and even better, they complemented the original varietals. This created a vast grape-producing heritage. All of these varietals which grow on the strip of land between the river Piave and the pre-alpine foothills, reflect the freshness of the grape's primary aromas, together with a complexity created by the unique microclimates and the minerality of its soils.
Our white wines, could be typified by words like finesse, elegance and character.
